Your Backyard Deserves More Than a Rotting Deck
Wood decks look great the first year. By year five, you're dealing with splinters, warped boards, and an annual maintenance bill that adds up fast. A concrete patio gives you a surface that looks clean, stays level, and doesn't ask much of you in return.
We've built concrete patios of all shapes and sizes across Sioux Falls and the surrounding area. Small urban backyards, sprawling ranch properties, L-shaped layouts, curved edges, and everything in between. Every job starts with a conversation about how you want to use the space.
Whether you're hosting summer cookouts, putting in outdoor furniture, or just want a clean surface to walk out to in the morning, we'll help you get there. Call us today for a free estimate. You can also explore our stamped and decorative concrete options to add style to your patio.
Why Concrete Outlasts Wood Decks and Pavers
You have a few options when it comes to outdoor surfaces: wood or composite decking, concrete, or natural stone pavers. Here's a straightforward look at why concrete wins for most Sioux Falls homeowners.
- No rotting, warping, or splinters: Concrete does not absorb moisture and will not rot, warp, or develop surface splinters the way wood does over time.
- No re-staining or sealing every year: Wood decks need to be sanded and stained every one to three years. Concrete just needs an occasional rinse and a sealer every few years.
- Handles our winters: South Dakota freeze-thaw cycles are tough on pavers because the joints fill with water and heave. A solid concrete slab with proper base prep handles it far better.
- Stays level over time: Well-installed concrete on a proper compacted base does not shift or sink the way individual pavers can when the ground settles.
- Lower total cost of ownership: Even though the upfront cost of concrete can match or slightly exceed a basic wood deck, the near-zero maintenance cost over 30+ years makes it the better financial decision.
Here's How We Build Your Patio
Every patio we pour follows the same careful process. There are no shortcuts and no guesswork.
Step 1: Layout and Design
We start by walking the space with you. We talk through the size, shape, and how it connects to your home. If you want a simple square slab, that's easy. If you want a curved edge, a built-in fire pit pad, or a transition to a walkway, we plan all of that before we break ground. You see the layout staked out before a single shovel goes in.
Step 2: Excavation and Base Prep
We excavate to the right depth, typically 8 to 10 inches below the finished surface to allow for a 4-inch compacted gravel base and a 4-inch concrete slab. We grade the base to slope slightly away from your home so rain drains off instead of pooling under the slab or against your foundation.
Step 3: Forms, Reinforcement, and Pour
We set wood forms to define the shape and edges, then install wire mesh or rebar based on the load the patio will bear. We pour, screed, and hand-finish the concrete with your chosen surface texture. Broom finish is the most common and gives great traction in wet weather.
Step 4: Finishing Touches and Curing
We tool the edges, cut control joints to manage any future cracking, and let the slab cure properly before you use it. We cover it to retain moisture during the first few days, which is critical for surface strength. You'll have a solid, attractive patio ready for furniture in about a week.

(605) 305-1070Common Questions About Concrete Patios
Most concrete patios in the Sioux Falls area run between $8 and $14 per square foot for a standard broom-finish slab. A 200-square-foot patio typically costs between $1,600 and $2,800 installed. Decorative finishes like stamping, staining, or exposed aggregate add to the cost but significantly improve the look. We give free, detailed estimates so there are no surprises.
A concrete patio built on a proper base with good reinforcement and the right mix design can last 25 to 40 years or more. The keys are proper drainage, a compacted gravel base, and avoiding heavy de-icing salts in winter. Applying a quality sealer every 3 to 5 years protects the surface from moisture and extends its life considerably.
Yes, and it's one of the most popular upgrades we install. Stamped concrete can mimic the look of natural stone, slate, brick, or wood at a fraction of the cost. We can also apply color to the mix or add a stain or dye after the pour to give your patio a custom look. Decorative finishes are applied during the same pour, so there's no extra disruption to your yard.
